Vermont

Part fun, part fact finding mission, we spent mid-September into mid-October in the beautiful state of Vermont. We’re drawn to the New England area, and part of this adventure is to see what state will win our hearts most! We split our free time in leg 25 between tiny towns we hadn’t yet visited and the cute tourist attractions in between.

Our Vermont rental was a large old home along a beautiful river. The water level was low due to drought, but it was still a gorgeous location.

Tenants in a blocked off portion of the home made this an awkward month. They kept to themselves but were obnoxiously loud regularly. We’ve stayed in similar set ups with hosts of the home and didn’t think a tenant would bother us as much as it did. Wouldn’t do the situation again.

We had 4 weeks in the Green Mountain State. Autumn hadn’t quite kicked in when we’d arrived, but watching the landscape burst into firey golds, oranges and reds was the experience we were after! And when they came, they did not disappoint!

Lee’s chosen greasy spoon for Vermont was Mary’s Cafe in West Rutland. The little hometown diner is a popular spot. And they only take cash or check!

This dish is ridiculous. Sold as Shepherd’s Pie but actually a Cottage Pie since it’s beef and not lamb, Killarney Irish Pub in Ludlow has the best variation I’ve had anywhere- ever!

My hopes were not high on our stop at Dewey’s Mills Cafe in Hartford, but I found this lightly seasoned/lightly fried shrimp on the menu that was amazing!
