Columbia River Maritime Museum

Lightship Columbia - Astoria OR

Of the 179 lightships ever constructed in the US, roughly 15 remain. Among them is the Lightship Columbia - currently an extension of the Columbia River Maritime Museum in Astoria, OR. The museum is dedicated to the maritime history of the Columbia River - an area notorious for it’s long history of shipwrecks.

Our planned visit to the Columbia River Maritime Museum evaporated when we discovered we’d arrived 20mins prior to closing. If you wonder why I’m even writing about it, know that I do it just as much for me as I do you - as a reminder that this is a must see location on the coast of Oregon. And to rewrite on our next pass down the west coast.

Though we didn’t have the opportunity to tour the museum, we had the chance to snap a few exterior photos; and the staff allowed us to check out the loot in the gift shop free of charge. Excited to stop here for a visit at a later date.
