Perrine Memorial Bridge

Perrine Memorial Bridge - Twin Falls UT

From the Twin Falls Visitors Center, visitors get amazing views of the Perrine Memorial Bridge. Built in the 1920s, the 1500’ bridge spans Snake River Canyon and is a wildly popular launching spot for BASE jumpers. Kayakers and canoers enjoy views of the bridge from the water; and pedestrians can enjoy sunrises and sunsets over the canyon from walkways on either side of the bridge and at each end.

We took time to admire the bridge from viewpoints along the rim and were so caught up in the scenery that we missed seeing the Evel Knievel Jump Monument. The daredevil attempted - and failed - to jump the Snake River near the Perrine Memorial Bridge with a rocket-powered cycle in 1974. The dirt ramp remains visible down river; but the monument is literally right off the visitor center’s parking lot and is tiny enough to miss. So, if this little piece of history interests you, know that it’s there.

After gawking at the bridge from viewpoints along the rim, we swung down to Centennial Waterfront Park to see the bridge and surrounding area from the river’s level. The day was hot, and the park was busy; but we found a parking spot easy enough and were able to explore a little on foot. Kayak concessions and launching areas were easy to find. And we didn’t see it, but somewhere in the park you can find Zip Line Tours over the Snake River.

The Canyon Rim Trail (accessed in the nearby vicinity) interested us enough that we planned to explore it later in the week. The 11+ mile round trip path is popular with cyclists and skirts the canyon’s edge from the trailhead near the visitors center to Shoshone Falls Park. However, we found too many other intriguing points of interest in the area and decided to skip it. Next time!
