North Carolina Piedmont

Grandfather - Linville NC

Some legs are busy; others are more laid back. Our June leg to the Winston-Salem area was low key. Back before we started this adventure, we both assumed North Carolina would be our landing spot when our travel adventure is over. Site seeing took a back seat to looking at neighborhoods, visiting malls, investigating what there was to do in the area, and checking out the local grocery stores had to offer.

Our rental was in a typical suburban neighborhood but landed on the low end of acceptable.

Reviews for the house vouched cleanliness, and this is the leg we discovered clean means different things to different people. Wouldn’t rent here again.

It didn’t take long for us to determine this location wouldn’t be it but still decided to keep the itinerary light.

We had a little bit of fun on a day in Mt. Airy, worked in a good hike at Grandfather Mountain, and finally got to see a piece of the Blue Ridge Parkway that had been closed leg 14 in January.

THE LOCAL GRUB

Scrambled w Swiss

First weekend breakfast stop at Silvia’s Honey Tree in Winston-Salem. Even though link sausage makes Lee sad as he prefers patties, he still enjoyed it.

The oatmeal at Kernersville Route 66 Diner was subpar, but the rest was passable. Great Coffee, though!

Fried Chop & Hashbrowns

Beef Chimichanga

Insert happy dreamy face here. Super cheesy. Super flavorful. Mi Pueblo in Winston-Salem.
