Museum of North Carolina Minerals

Museum of North Carolina Minerals - Spruce Pine NC

A quaint visitor center and museum combo off the iconic Blue Ridge Parkway, The Museum of North Carolina Minerals is free (donations accepted) and touches on the regions geology and mining history. Interactive exhibits are perfect for kids. Grassy fields are perfect for pets. And a historical stone monument found on the back side of the museum grounds touches on the Revolutionary War Overmountain Trail.

This was a quick stop for us along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Inside, the museum is quite small but has a few neat science exhibits and some interesting geology samples from the region.

Outside, a handful of specimens sit along the path leading to the Gillespie Gap monument.

Wouldn’t go out of the way to visit the Museum of North Carolina Minerals, but it’s a good spot to hit in passing or to take a break on the long scenic drive. Gift shop. Clean restrooms. Picnic tables would be a great addition.
