Mount Rushmore

A colossal sculpture with faces 60ft high, Mount Rushmore, along with the American flag, the Statue of Liberty and the bald eagle, has become one of the most recognized symbols of the United Sates.
The four presidents of Rushmore represent turning points in American history: Washington - its birth, Jefferson - its expansion in the purchase of the Louisiana Purchase, T. Roosevelt - its economic growth in the construction of the Panama Canal, and Lincoln - its preservation in the Civil War.
We spent a morning roaming the grounds of Mount Rushmore, and really didn’t need more time than that.
The Avenue of Flags leading up to the Grand View Terrace is interesting. There are 56 flags along the walk: flags from all 50 states are represented as well as flags from America’s territories, commonwealths, and district.
The Grand View Terrace over looks the Mount Rushmore National Memorial Amphitheater. The amphitheater hosts rangers talks every evening that end with the lighting of the memorial.
Walking Presidential Trail Loop accesses several terraces for closer views of the monument and also leads to the Sculpture’s studio (closed seasonally).
