Petit Manan Lighthouse

Petit Manan Lighthouse - Steuben ME

Reaching 119 feet, Petit Manan Light is one of the tallest lighthouses in Maine. Originally constructed in 1817 and rebuilt numerous times thereafter, the lighthouse guided shipping traffic through one of the foggiest locations long the Maine coast. Now part of the Petit Manan National Wildlife Refuge working to protect the nesting habitats of puffins, terns, and other seabirds, Fish and Wildlife staff use the tower as an observation post and live in the keeper’s house. Other wildlife on the island include bald eagles and seals.

Closed to the public, the best was to view Petit Manan Lighthouse is by boat.
