Sunset Trail

Coronado National Forest

MAY 2021

2.4 mile out & back - 370’ elev gain - moderate

The smell of evergreen smacks you in the face the moment you step out of your vehicle - it’s amazing!

From the Sunset trailhead, the hike begins on a dirt road between cabins and leads to the Marshal Gulch Picnic Area then back. This trek going this direction gives hikers a mostly downhill descent to the Picnic Area and a heart-pumping climb back to the trail head. You can reverse this by parking at the Picnic area; giving you the climb early on.

Google Maps refers to this trail as Sky Islands Traverse. It’s also worth noting the best (and only) vista on this trail is on the southernmost turn between the trailhead and picnic area. If you’re hiking specifically for views, this is it.

Additional trails at the Picnic Area allow hikers to further explore the gulch.

happy hikng!
