Maple Pass

Okanogan National Forest

7.8 mile loop - 2192 elev gain - hard

AUG 2021

Stunning hike. One of our favorites across the United States. Since our chosen hike for North Cascades was closed due to forest fire, a park ranger pointed us to Maple Pass for a trail of equal challenge and beauty - it did not disappoint.

Arrived at 8am and had oodles of parking.

Trail is well groomed, provided good footing, and is well marked.

Hiked late August and were treated to gorgeous alpine flowers, beautiful turquoise lakes, and a number of glaciers. It rained. It snowed. We were hot; we were cold. We laughed and we whined.

This hike is epic.

Note: Based on reviews, we moved counterclockwise which gave us a steeper descent on the back half of the hike. Steeper descents are tough for hikers with touchy knees - raises hand. Would take this route clockwise in the future for the steeper climb with an easier descent.

happy hikng!
