Kansas City BBQ Hop
LC’s Bar B-Q Pit - Kansas City MO
Rumor has it no trip to Kansas City is complete without sampling the local BBQ. And we love BBQ, so we hit a number if locations in a compressed amount of time. We quickly learned Kansas City BBQ is a hybrid of the heavy dry rubs of the west and the goopy sauces of the east – and that pork might actually mean ham.
If heavy rubs dripping in goop are your thing, this place is for you!
Gates BarBBQ
At Gate’s we split a plate of ribs, beef, & ham; and this stop hits the bottom of our list. The BBQ was fair and overly sauced. Combined with poor counter service, this stop was the most underwhelming of our BBQ experience. Wouldn’t return.
Big T’s Bar-B-Q
Beef on Bun from BigT’s was a respectable middle of the road experience. Didn’t hate it, and didn’t fall in love with it. Good stop if you’re driving by, but wouldn’t go out of the way to try.
LG’s Bar-B-Q
Tiny joint with an impressive pit directly behind the counter for all to see. Interesting to watch the madness of meat shifting while we waited to order. At LC’s we stuck to sampling burnt ends. Good smoke, great sauce, delicious flavor. Worth the try if you’re in the area. Would return if nearby.
Q39
This Smoked Beef Brisket Poutine at Q39 was phenomenal. Paired this appetizer with Spiced Onion Straws and a couple cocktails and made it a meal. Will definitely return if we revisit Kansas City.
Jack Stack Barbeque
Dishes we tried at Jack Stack were Pulled Pork Mac-n-cheese & Brisket and burnt ends. The BBQ was average. Potato side was the best thing we ordered.
Joe’s Kansas City BarBQ
It’s probably blasphemous to say, but our favorite bar-b-que of the area we found across the state line in Kansas. We sampled several meats at Joe’s Kansas City: the brisket, ribs, pulled pork, and burnt ends. All were moist with great smoke flavor and stood on their own not really needing sauce. We returned several days later for more. Looking forward to return to Joe’s in the future.
