Greater Kansas City
Our quest to follow autumn down the U.S. as we made our way home for the holidays put us in the greater Kansas City area for Leg 10. It was mid-October and autumn was in the air. We still found the time to sample oodles of the famous Kansas City BBQ and spend a quick afternoon to exploring the City of Fountains.
We had a neighborhood rental in Liberty; a suburb of Kansas City, MO. The property had plenty of space and wall-to-ceiling windows with woodland views in the main living area.
The covered deck and koi pond were a nice touch!
Since we decided to take shift to a vehicle with the 4 wheel drive we’d need for future legs, we spent more time than we wanted at dealerships and less exploring the area. Consequently, our two short weeks in Liberty were gone in a flash.
After discussing the pros and cons of options we thought might make travel easier - from RVs to cargo vans - a new truck was on the horizon. The 6 month wait for camper shells nixed this option We settled on the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica. We joke we raised 2 boys to adulthood and never owned a minivan. So, meet Bessie – complete with disappearing seats.

Oatmeal
It’s rare you order oatmeal at a restaurant and it doesn’t taste like wet Styrofoam or or chewy glue. Still, I try. Luckily, I was rewarded with cooks who know what they’re doing at The Big Biscuit on Route 291. Best oatmeal I’ve ever eaten in an establishment.
From Texas through most states in the western half of the nation, queso in a Mexican restaurant means yellow cheese with chopped chilis. East of the Mississippi, its white, gooey, and delicious. Not sure were the dividing line is, but thrilled Mi Hacienda on Route 291 could give us a little taste of home!
Burrito w Cheese
Q39 - Midtown on W 39th has amazing appetizers and phenomenal cocktails. We try spirits wherever we can, and these are some of the best in Kansas City. Parking is tight but worth the struggle.
Should we find ourselves in KC in the future, we’ll be back!
