Prospect Harbor Lighthouse

Prospect Harbor Lighthouse ME

Activated in 1850 and having significant periods of deactivation over its existence, Prospect Harbor Lighthouse (current structure circa 1891) is now the property of the U.S. Coast Guard and sits behind the locked security gates of the Prospect Harbor Naval Satellite Operations Station, Maine.

The lighthouse is permanently closed and can only be viewed from a distance.

Drove to Prospect Harbor Lighthouse specifically to see it unaware of the logistical information. You cannot get as close as the picture above suggests: photo above was taken at low tide in down in an alcove of Inner Harbor with a Canon EOS Rebel T7i.

Fire damage evident along the roof line (pictured at the top) occurred June 2022, two months prior to our visit and was determined to have started in the bathroom ceiling ventilation fan.
