Blood Mountain Wilderness

FEB 2022

4.3 mile out & back - 1460 ft elev - hard

Handful of parking spots at the trail head. We arrived around and lunch and found a park easily enough.

The hike begins at the Byron Reece Trailhead and connects to the Appalachian Trail. Path leads to the summit, which is the highest point on the AT in Georgia. Steep in parts. A little icy. A bit muddy. A bit rocky. Sturdy boots will save your feet.

The Blood Mountain Shelter rests in the trees off the summit. Boulders to the southwest of the shelter are the perfect spot for lunch with a view.

Gorgeous day. Great friends. Amazing hike. And now we can all say we’ve hiked the Appalachian Trail … sort of.

happy hikng!
