Kreie Preserve

Jug Creek - Bokeelia FL

Located on the north end of Pine Island, the shallow waters of Jug Creek and Little Bokeelia Bay are perfect for kayaking Kreie Preserve. There’s no set paddle trail, just a great place to meander around and enjoy the scenery. The peaceful waterways are surrounded by beautiful mangrove islands and teaming with abundant wildlife.

You only need to wary of boaters.

On September 28, 2022, Category 4 Hurricane Ian made landfall near the island of Cayo Costa, FL. Damage to the island and the surrounding greater Fort Myers area was catastrophic. Many communities lost businesses and homes. The determined began the arduous process of rebuilding. Others have chosen to move on.

Our rental provided a couple kayaks for our use, but you can rent at multiple locations. Drifting through the mangroves in the surrounding preserves was a pretty amazing experience. Loved being out on the water early in the morning watching nature wake up. And we even enjoyed an evening paddle and saw a teeny bit of the Calusa Island preserve.

We saw plenty of wildlife; mainly birds. But we were treated to a pair of dolphin on our first morning out and that made the experience even more exciting.

To make it even sweeter, Bec got to join me for her first ever Kayak experience – and she did great! But it still was a hoot listening to her “cringe” at the flying fish!

If we had room to haul around a couple of kayaks, we’d be out right now buying a pair. Looking forward to exploring more kayaking in the future!
