Florida Overseas Heritage Trail

Channel #5 Bridge - Islamorada FL

The Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail stretches 106 miles through the Florida Keys from Key Largo all the way to the southernmost point of the continental US in Key West. The route runs parallel to or shares US Highway 1 for its entirety. Segments of pedestrian/bike bridges sustained damage from 2017 Hurricane Irma and 2022 Hurricane Ian. Repairs are made as funds become available.

Cycling down HW1 in the Keys is nuts. I kept my rides on to the dedicated bike path in the Islamorada area and managed to safely pull off a few morning rides. These were some of the best rides I’ve had to date, and they will forever stick with me as I spent a good deal of time giggling while Iguana dodging!
