Castle Craig

Castle Craig - Meriden CT

A 32-foot stone observation tower who some say was modeled after Scotland’s ancient castle of the same name, Castle Craig stands on the 976-foot East Peak of the Hanging Hills in Meriden CT and is the highest point within 25 miles of the coast from Maine to Florida.

Castle Craig is said to have some of the best views in Connecticut; so of course we had to see it. Because who doesn’t want to see a castle!

We took a hike to see it, but you can also take Hubbard Park’s Park Drive right up to the tower. There’s also a bench or two at the tower base to rest and take in the veiws.

I wouldn’t classify the stairs for the tower as narrow; but at the top, there’s only room comfortably for a handful of people. On peak days, I’m not sure visiting Castle Craig would be quite as enjoyable.

We’re not historians, but don’t you think this should be called Turret Craig?!
