Snowshoeing Mount Surprise

Snow - Shelburne NH

This is the winter sport for me! There are places in New Hampshire that offer groomed trails for snowshoeing, but why on Earth would anyone want to do that?! Backcountry is where the fun is at! Just you, your snowshoes, and a couple of poles trudging through the snow. It’s great!

I enjoyed our downhill skiing adventures in New Hampshire but fell in love with snowshoeing instantly. Our hosts, Nick and Sandy, provided us with equipment. From the first five minutes I could rank this activity up there with riding the dunes in Oregon, snorkeling in the Keys, and kayaking.

We were the first on the hike trail after a heavy snowstorm. Explored 2.5 miles with a little elevation of 266-feet. Fell in a couple of spots because we you never know what’s under the snow. Might have different feelings if we’d gotten seriously injured. ?But holy cow - Ridiculously fun! Ready for my own snowshoes!
