We learned a little about the hows and whys of the settling of the area at the Swain County Heritage Museum. The Museum is located on Everett St in the 1908 historic courthouse of Bryson City. The historic building has three distinct areas: the Swain County Visitor Center located on entry into the lobby offers maps and pamphlets on surrounding attractions; a gift shop in the rear of the lower level contains maps, books, and souvenirs for Great Smoky Mountain National Park; and the Swain County Heritage Museum located on the second floor.
