George Washington’s Mount Vernon
Mount Vernon - Mt. Vernon VA
The vast estate of Mount Vernon on the banks of the Potomac River is the most popular historic estate in America.
Today, the home of the First President of the United States and one time 8,000-acre plantation occupies 500 acres.
The National Historic Landmark is comprised of the meticulously restored home of George Washington, a number of historic outbuildings such as the smokehouse, stables, and 16-sided barn, George Washington and Martha Washington’s Tomb, and the Donald W. Reynolds Museum and Education Center.
After our visit to Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, we were better prepared for what Mount Vernon might entail.
Hours the day of our Feb 2023 visit were 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
But, we had a scheduled side jaunt into Maryland for the afternoon, so I feel our visit wasn’t thorough enough.
