Grove Trail
John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park
.5 mile- out & back- 6 ft elev gain - easy
MAY 2022
Super short trail that treks from the parking lot of John Pennekamp, through a tropical hardwood hammock, and into a historical citrus grove.
The grove was originally cleared and planted by early pioneers in Key Largo. Little soil in the area meant boring through bedrock in order to plant trees. The grove was used to grow pineapples. tomatoes and key limes. New plantings keep the history of the grove alive.
happy hikng!
