Northern Florida
Family time! We spent leg 17 hanging with my baby sister in the Greater Gainesville area. We haven’t spent such a large chuck of time together since we were little kids. Happy to report we still like each other. The rains were kinder this leg, but Florida still held true to what I know as king of popup showers. So, we had lots of time to binge horror shows.
During my personal time this leg, I decided I didn’t like the look or feel of our travel site and decided to revamp it. So I began the task of creating my own graphics and brainstorming ways to improve it. Between site work and daily workouts, I still found time for a few mornings for bike rides.
We spent 2 weeks in the Greater Gainesville area on leg 17 and swung back by for another week at the end of leg 19, so we had plenty of time to find interesting things to do. A rainy day found us spending the day at the nearest aquarium. We took a couple sister days and went ziplining and visited a U-pick farm. Of course we did a hike. And my brother drove all the way across the country to visit! Good times!
THE LOCAL GRUB
Penne Pasta
Cute spot for lunch. Tony and Al’s Deli in Alachua is a lowkey Italian restaurant with almost a tavern vibe serving classics like meatball subs, calzones, and pastas.
Pulled Pork, Beans
On travel day from the Keys, we found The Pearl Country Store and BBQ just outside of historic Micanopy. Since we haven’t seen many BBQ places in FL we decided to check it out. This place has all the goodies of a convenience store and a southern BBQ joint all rolled into one. Most excellent!
& Greens
High Springs Brewing Company in High Springs offers local brews in a relaxed beer garden setting. Small town vibe. Live music. Food trucks. Great for a chill night out. Cornhole tournament happening the evening we dropped in. Fun to watch!
