Washington Monument
Washington Monument - Washington D.C.
The Washington Monument has been a part of the American fabric for generations. The cornerstone for the 555-foot obelisk comprised of gneiss, granite, and marble was laid on July 4, 1848. On its completion on 1884, the monument honoring America’s first president was the tallest building in the world.
Fifty American flags surround the base of the monument, and the two distinct phases of construction are evident in the stones color transition on a sunny day.
Features inside the monument include an elevator, a small museum, and the observation deck .
Online tickets to visit inside the Washington Monument can be purchased online up to 30 days in advance. Limited quantities of in-person tickets are released daily at 9am.
