Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello
Monticello - Charlottesville VA
Ask any American three thing the know about Thomas Jefferson…
Primary author of the Declaration of Independence. Third President of the United States. And Monticello.
Designated a World Heritage Site in 1987 for Jefferson’s architectural ingenuity and use of neo-classical elements Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello is one of the best-preserved plantations in the United States.
A visit to the 5,000 acre site includes a tour of the Monticello Hose, access to Plantation features such as Hemmings Cabin and Mulberry Row, Thomas Jefferson’s Tomb, the Burial Ground for Enslaved People, David M. Rubenstein Visitor Center, and shuttle service around the grounds of Monticello.
We were not prepared for this day.
The size of Monticello and all there is to see should not be under estimated.
Hours the day of our Feb 2023 visit were 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
We originally planned to walk the grounds between locations, and pivoted to using the provided shuttle service to see as much as we could.
