Deep Creek Loop

Great Smoky Mountains National Park

JAN 2022

5.3 mile loop - 906 elev gain - moderate

Our plan in Great Smoky Mountains National Park was to hike Alum Cave Trail to Mount LeConte. Snowstorms and road closures had us pivot to Deep Creek Loop. A much easier trail, but one that got us out in nature for the day.

Hiked clockwise to get both peaks done earlier on and coasted the back half. Took time to stop at Juney Whank Falls. Few people on the trail. Made for a great hike.

The southeast side of the trail running along Deep Creek is beautiful and the path is wide. However, this section of the trail doubles as an equestrian trail and is also an access point for tubing. Take note if you’re planning to hike Deep Creek in the spring.

happy hikng!
