Snohomish

Downtown Bridge - Snohomish WA

Named for a local Native American tribe, Snohomish is a suburb of Seattle and is affectionately referred to as the antique capitol of the northwest. Charming, well preserved buildings of the late 1800’s and early 1900’s provide spaces for shops and restaurants along the four block strip of 1st Street making it the perfect backdrop for a day of antiquing. And the adventurous and romantic can view Snohomish - and the surrounding valley - via hot air balloon.

Instead of grabbing the hot air balloon, we spent the afternoon walking the town, perusing a few antique shops looking to see how they differ from those in the south, and having a variety of tastings.

Lunch at Fred’s Rivertown Alehouse led to tasting the local Washington brews on tap.

If tastings are your thing, Snohomish has a selection of venues to stop at. Wine tastings at Randolph Cellars can be enjoyed on the deck overlooking the Snohomish River. They also offer well presented charcuterie boards if you’re feeling peckish.

Skip Rock Distillers - on Ave C - offers a varied product line of vodkas, rums, whiskeys, and an assortment of fruit liquors.

Though lazy days and antiquing are a draw to Snohomish, lovers of music and art will enjoy a variety of fairs and festivals each year.
