Broadway, Nashville
Broadway - Nashville TN
Broadway in Nashville is sensory overload. Some of the most amazing neon signs ever flash and twirl while live music spills into the streets - even at 11 o’clock on a Wednesday morning. The hometown of country music and birthplace of bluegrass, it seems the party never stops on here. And if shopping is your thing, loads of boutiques and shops pepper Broadway between bars and honkytonks… or is that the same thing?
Not only are the neon signs on Broadway memorable, but many of the projecting storefront signs are equally neat to see.
Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge takes it a step further opting for all things purple. But it’s hard not to be famous in Nashville when your history is tied to the Ryman Auditorium. A single alleyway separates the two establishments; and in the early days, rising stars - like Willie Nelson - performing at the Ryman would take set breaks at Tootsie’s.
Dubbed a National Historic Landmark for it’s role in popularizing country music, the Ryman Auditorium has events throughout the year, and is open for tours Monday-Sunday 9am-4pm.
We didn’t set foot in Tootsie’s; just strolled by it. And we didn’t tour the Ryman. But after a little bit of shopping, we had appetizers of Smoked Brisket Tacos and Southern Tater Tot Poutine at Ole Red and did a spirit tasting at Big Machine Whiskey before settling on lunch at Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville Nashville.
After lunch, we stumbled upon the 2021 NASCAR Champion’s Week event on the Cumberland River.
Cars were on display in the shadow of the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge and we later found them revving up Broadway.
Burnouts were scheduled to take over the streets at dark, but we bailed on the day with the threat of rain moving in.
